News: In Zamfara NGO donates 30 tonnes of rice to IDPs.

Internally Displaced persons in Zamfara recently got relief materials that include tons of bags of rice from the Seeds Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria.

An NGO, Seeds Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN) on Saturday donated 30 tonnes of 10kg bags of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Dansadau emirate of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 3,000 IDPs were displaced from their various communities as a result of cattle rustling and bandit attacks.

Speaking while presenting the items to the victims, the Chairman of the association, Prof. Johnson Onyebe said that the gesture by the association was to assist the victims.

“We are very concerned about what has been happening here and we have decided to come and offer this assistance as our contribution to you as brothers and sisters.

“It is one of our programmes in SEEDAN, that whenever there are incidences like this, we contribute out of the little profit we are getting from our businesses to provide succour to humanity.

“We provide this assistance through the guidance and advise of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh.

“As we are handing over this 30 tonnes of 10kg bags of rice to Dansadau emirate today to be distributed to the victims, we are calling for judicious distribution of the items,’’ he said.

In his remark, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in charge of Sokoto Operations Office, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad commended the association for the gesture.

He called on other organisations and associations as well as well meaning individuals to assist the victims.

Muhammad urged the victims to be patience and consider the their plights as an act of God, saying that NEMA would soon provide the Federal Government’s assistance to the victims.

The Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussaini Umar, who was represented by District Head of Dansadau, Alhaji Nasiru Sarkin-Kudu thanked the association for the gesture, saying “it came at the right time, considering the needs of the victims.’’

The emir, therefore, called on the people in the emirate to offer special prayers and cooperate with the emirate as well as the government to ensure peace and stability in the area.

Alhaji Tambaya Muhammad and Alhaji Garba Mato, representatives who spoke on behalf of the victims thanked the association for the donation.

They urged governments at all levels to emulate the gesture.
