he Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), recently asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the Edo state election slated for September 10, 2016.

The security agencies, in a joint press conference, cited security concerns as the reason for the call for the postponement.

They said terrorists are planning to attack some vulnerable spots during the Sallah festivities on Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 13, 2016.

According to Daily Post, the call for the postponement was made by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, and a DSS representative‎, Garba Abdullahi.

The security operatives also revealed that Edo state is among the states that has been earmarked for the attacks.

They also said the postponement of the election will enable all relevant security agencies to deal with the threat decisively.

The security agencies pleaded for understanding, and also re-iterated their resolve to ensure peace and security in the country.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it is probing the guber candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for allegedly distributing N23b, allegedly laundered by ex-Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke to fund the PDP’s 2015 election campaign.
